Mister Elmer Bernstein 1922 - 2004

Death of a pop genius.
The obvious - The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), The Man With The Golden Arm (1955). The not so obvious - Robot Monster (1953), Cat Women Of The Moon (1953), Drango (1957), The Silencers (1966), Saturn 3 (1980), The Grifters (1990).
Above all, the genius behind the deranged jazz of TV show Johnny Staccato (1959).
All that and only one Oscar.
Truly, the man did write godlike tunes.

Yeah, but 14 nominations, I think. Didn't know he'd done "Cat Women of the Moon", though. Don't even remember it having a soundtrack! May still have that hanging around on an old video somewhere. Johnny Staccato was total genius...

And the Oscar was for 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' - How Crap.
