Mr Moffat

As requested by Betty Cress, the tragically short-lived Logan's Run, featuring the greatest eybrow actor ever Donald Moffat (left), and Uber-Fluff Heather Menzies (she was the middle kid in The Sound Of Music and also starred in the marvellous Pirahna.
Moffat also played the twitchy Garry in my third favourite film The Thing. He lasts almost to the end.

Oh thankyou. You've cheered me up after an intensely depressing day. So depressing that....well...I won't go into it, but it has involved me having to destroy myself. I can't say why here, but thankyou for the post...

Pirahna. What a fucking great film.

I'm feeling better now. I just love 'The Thing' - it's a fantastic film and he always look so sad even when he's not sad. He looks, yes, perturbed. In a good way.

Yes Kek - Pirahna is a great film. It inspired me to go and get my own pet one. It was really scary and once it jumped out of the fish tank and tried to get me. It was horrible. It grew bigger and bigger and then....it jumped out into the washing up bowl in the kitchen. It was frantic. It did survive though. They are killer fish. I love all those films. Great stuff...alligators down sewers, weirdy things living under the sand, Dune like wormy wrigglers and dangly, wibbly things in Cronenberg's films. I've got Cronenberg's autograph on my wall. Kek is going to think I'm a big liar saying I've met Herzog and Kenneth Anger. But, honestly, it's true.

There is another genre of films that hasn't yet been applauded...the 'get a moose on a raft' genre. There is always some kind of moose/goose/gorilla/fake Loch Ness monster that needs rescuing and during the said rescue, there is some kind of family relationship that needs to be healed. Usually said animal/Mythical thingy gets dragged along by string/on a raft/on the back of a van. Very funny, very poignant in a strange kind of way.

What am I going on about? Sorry.

You are sweet to have put up this post. I think he's very sweet and I'd forgotten about him in 'The Thing' - I really was scared when I first saw that, I made my dad stay up and watch it with me...poor thing.

Can you tell me what your top two films are then?

They recently remade Pirahna. They did it exactly the same with Alexandra Paul off Baywatch, only they left out the sinister government scientists. It sucked.
Well, if The Thing is my third favourite, then 2nd is The Matrix and 1st is The Magnificent Seven. Today, anyway.
You had a pirahna? Fuck that's cool. Was it a Red Belly?

Molly Bloom said...

No, it was just a silvery old thing. With evil eyes. But yes, he was very cool.

Dom and I (and Lurch) saw Pirhana at a late night cinema show in (I think) Bristol many moons ago.

I have a great fondness for 'Nature runs Riot' type films. Grizzly's a classic too, I reckon. "Night of The Demon" is great too (not the 50s one w/ Dana Andrews, tho that's pretty good too): it's a 70s Big Foot film. The Big Foot whips one of the annoying student protagonists with his own entrails...!!!

I also like the first Anaconda film: it's a classy modern B-movie...

I had a jersey like Logan's for years. It was my best Christmas jumper.....

Molly Bloom said...

Oh yes..Anaconda. That's great. Class.

But one of my favourites, is, I just can't remember the name of it, about a beach that sucks people under, into the sand. I know it's got 'Beach' in the title. Probably something like 'Death Beach' or 'Blood Beach' or something like that... My memory for names is very bad. 'Communion' with Walken is excellent too - what on earth was going on at the end?

'Videodrome' - marvellous.

You would both probably like 'Tetsuo' too. The blurring of the body/machine limits. Great!

'The Hills Have Eyes' - I'm sure that I've met most of those characters in real life.

Long live Horror and B-Movies! And other brilliant, wonderful films.

'The Pigs' - a really dodgy horror flick from the 1970s with a woman feeding people to pigs. It's mad, truly mad.

I think everyone should own a Moffat jumper.

Dominic Zero said...

Doppeldude - you should have kept your Logan's Run jumper, because in the future, as you probably know, we'll all be wearing them.
Personally I'm dreading the whole everybody has to wear identical jump suits thing.
When's that going to happen?
Blood Beach = Classic. Been looking for that for ages.
Anaconda's ace..as is Eight Legged Freaks.

David Arquette - yes wonderful.

But 'Shivers' is one of my favourites.

Then there's a few Johnny Holmes films where a long, slimy headed monster goes out of control. Ha ha ha ha!

'Slugs' and the new one...'Slither' I wonder how that'll turn out.

'Blood Beach' a true classic. If I see a copy anywhere I'll get it and send it to you. I'm always rooting around. I found 'Lair of the White Worm' like that. The scariest thing about that, though, is Hugh Grant's acting...

Oh, the delights of this...

Yes, 'Night of the Demon' is great, great, great.

'Night of the Eagle' is really great too if you get a chance. And if you haven't seen 'The Innocents' (I'm sure you both have) it really is good.

Shall I shut up now?
